CTC#130 Sad Farewell to the Occasions Catalogue

Well all good things come to an end, and this week is the end of the Occasions Catalogue so the team are CASEing it one last time.


Many products are continuing but some just have to go. So I'm using the Urban Underground DSP before it's gone, and Kraft cardstock which I REALLY am going to miss, and an old tool - the alphabet rotary stamp since I don't yet own a small alphabet stamp to create my own sentiments. But I have also chosen the Gorgeous Dragonfly Dreams set which is continuing and some new ribbon coming next week - the mini chevron ribbon.

I love quite a lot of projects in this book but I am very short on time this week so opted for a card that looked quite quick and easy, as well as packing a punch with its simplicity. The card on page 44, bottom right - how easy is a few strips of paper? And there are so many gorgeous patterns of DSP you could make this card a million ways and each one would look unique.


The first sample follows the catalogue layout fairly closely although I added the bee instead of the string bow- and I dressed it up a little with the ribbon stitched onto the base.

But then I thought I would do a stepped up version to add a little more detail. By simply adding a background mat, and laying the strips onto an embossed panel it adds a lot more dimension. I thought the honeycomb folder worked perfectly with the bee.

    Brilliant cards. Love the sentiment. How do you think of such a clever saying? And yes, this is a fantastic way to show off DSP. Great case. Love it all!

    Love your take on the design Elizabeth and your stepped up version and the colours...everything really! I didn't use those papers anywhere near enough :-(

    What a great way to use the DSP Liz! I am ordering (or highly suggesting!) you to buy the Labeler Alphabet stamp set - it's a great investment! Kelly x

    Love the cards, the stepped up version is lovely but I really love the simplicity of the first one.... On another note, I didn't realize the Kraft paper was going, I'm so bummed it is the best Kraft paper of any I have every bought and I use it heaps, why would stampin up get rid of it😢

      Thanks Wendy,I know me too!!! very sad, and it's completely sold out so no more on the retirement list either. Yes I love simple but I have trouble stopping myself from going too far!

    Liz, I loved what you did with those scraps of paper... Great way to use up leftovers. I am yet to play in Caseing the catty group or Inkspiration.

      Thanks Shaz, You should totally play with the challenges. There's loads in the Catalogue to insprie you. It's fun, but you only have until Sunday night of the following week!, colour INKspiration you have a bit longer but it can be more challenging. CTC you can CASE a layout, embellishmant, colour scheme - anything in that section of the Catalogue. It's a great way to discover what 's in those magic pages that you didn;t see the first time.

    Both of your cards are really cute, Liz. I love the simplicity of the first one and it is a great way to use coordinating DSP. I hadn't noticed that the Kraft card stock was retiring; I'm glad I've got a bit left.

Envelope Dies perfect for an Acetate Tent card and some new DSP

After creating yesterday's cards I was on a roll and created this one using the beautiful Gilded Autumn DSP and the Fancy Phrases stamp set.  I really love the sentiments in this set.  It is such a simple design and easy to create. You can find all the directions on yesterday's post for Just Add Ink (JAI#518)  I watercoloured the white leaf after I had adhered the gold veins just to soften it, and I added a strip of mint DSP to the front of one of the tent stands as the white was a bit stark. That's the cool thing about this design, you can change it up plenty of ways. I'm sure we can all send these type of cards at the moment.
