At this time of the year - when one set of In Colours ( group of 5 which has been around for 2 years ) is about to retire, I often find myself gravitating towards them to get the last little bit of use before they disappear from use. Well also it's to try and use them up to create space for the excitement of incoming colours ( early May ) I have really loved Pebbled Path as a solid and reliable cardbase. Here I have also used Boho Blue and Moody Mauve with the blending brushes to create the Hydrangea. I have also used some other retired products in the background papers. This beautiful image is from the new Thankful Garden suite, which includes the stampset, decorative masks, and dies. The masks are incredibly easy to use.  Time to say Farewell to this group of In Colours. I will miss Boho Blue and Pebbled Path - easily my favourites. Moody Mauve will also be missed but I have to admit I have rarely used Wild Wheat, and almost never opened Copper Clay, so I won't miss those. I know Wild Wheat has been popular with many, but it never really made it to the front row in my craft space! Though I didn't love Wild Wheat, I must say that blending blue and yellow (ie Boho Blue and Wild Wheat) to give green worked really well for the leaves in both these cards. I have not been very good at posting the projects we have made at classes this year - and now it's past the Winter Solstice already and so the days should start getting longer again!  So here's a few projects from card classes earlier this year. This was a class using the fabulous Enduring Beauty Masks and blending brushes. No dies were used for this, and we didn't use the coordinating stampset - I wanted to show what you can do with just the decorative masks. There are 5 masks in total and although they are numbered 1-5, I tend to do all the flower parts in one go and then both of the leaf masks next. When you start your blending mark the location of the notch so you know where to position the next mask and which way to orientate it. You need to manually place it in the best position before you start adding ink. Some low tack tape is useful to hold the mask in place for this. It's the launch of another Challenge at Colour INKspiration -#160 is a beautiful palette of pastels. I have not used all 5 - that was too much of a challenge for me but I did manage 4 of the 5. Highland Heather is the only one that's missing. This card uses the stunning Enduring Beauty products - There is a stampset, Dies and the amazing blending masks. ( we'll be using the masks in the next card class, they are so much fun ) I heat embossed the single large flower image with gold powder on Basic White card, then I added  colour using the blending brushes and gradually building up the layers of colour. I do find that I get better effects using the Soft Sea Foam with blending tone on tone rather than simple stamping from the inkpad. I green sponged oner the matching green cardstock. The inspriation picture is so soft and subtle. I have to confess I struggle with pastels but I really wanted to try blending some of the colours together with the masks. It is a lovely effect bl...

 I love the decorative masks, and currently there are 3 sets availalbe. The Basic Patterns have been around for a while now and this stylised leaf pattern is so versatile. Handy Tip: - you can sponge directly onto patterned DSP, creating a beautiful layer of texture and interest.  I also love doing this with embossing paste. Today's card uses the sketch layout from GDP#334, but turns out I missed the deadline- no matter. A quick card to put together. The hand penned bundle is compatible with the Mini Stampin Cut and Emboss machine which is on sale at 20% off this month. It is not one of the bundles on sale but works so well with this mighty tool.   So after creating the coloured panels with sponging and decorative masks for CI#117  ( you can see that post here ) I cut a stash of Stitched Triangles and I have finally used the remainder to create another 2 cards. Same, same but different. The first uses another white textured background and the inside is decorated with the leftover snips. And the second has some large triangles also cut from scraps of Bermuda Bay DSP, and a little bit of sponging on the card base. Here's the reminder of what they started as-  it's amazing how crafting can lead from one thing to another. Here's the colour challenge picture again. Welcome back for the latest colour challenge, inspired this week by a great photo of a two Black and Red Broadbills from  https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRMdBHA4i5/ . I knew I wanted to use a tool that I haven't used as much as I thought I would- or as much as I should, and these strong colours seemed just right for a card with some white space around the elements. I used one of my favourite techniques - watercolour painting onto Shimmery White Cardstock. For this project I mixed a small amount of Crushed Curry at one end of each of the Real Red and Bermuda Bay panels. After the water painting dried (For some added depth) I sponged each panel with some of the great pattern elements from the new Decorative Masks from the Jan - June Mini catalogue. a mixture of tone on tone ( ie Bermuda on Bermuda) and some multicoloured panel The Butterflies and Flowers Layering decorative masks  are so easy to use and they are a great new size at 4x6".
