I've always loved a good layout as a recipe for creating projects. I am putting together a few of my favourite layouts that I find really easy and versatile. The first uses one strip of DSP and a small rectangle for stamping and an embossed mat as your base layer. It works well both Horizontally and Vertically. Standard Card Base     21 x 14.8 scored at 10.5 Cardstock Mat               10 x 14.3 cm embossed with folder of your choice White / vanilla               7 x 8.5 cm  ( for stamping your main image ) DSP strip                         5 x 12 cm Sentiment                        2 / 2.5 cm x 9.5 One of the great things about this layout is that any piece of A4- white/ vanilla/ shimmer etc is 21 cm wide, so you can cut it into 3 strips from which to cut...

 It was World Card Making Day this time last week and I had a fabulous day making cards with a group of crafty friends from all over the place, both on line and in person organised by Vicki Wright. There were presentations by 6 designers and sketches to create along with on the day. It was so good to be creating with others.  This is one of the sketches which was put up on the day but which I only managed to complete later, I used the beautiful Forever Blossoms set which is one that I should use more often but never get past the good intentions. Thank goodness for the coordinating Cherry Blossoms Dies which cut out the images in a flash Such a versatile sketch. Current colours but retired papers, I'm sure we all have those. The blossoms are stamped onto gray granite and coloured with blends. You can't see the sparkle from the Wink of Stella - but it is there. So now it is World Card Sending Week! - not that we really need a reason to send cards since we all know how wonderful...

The new Annual Catalogue begins May 4th and while there are many beautiful sets retiring I am really happy that these amazing Sunflower dies are continuing. I had this sunflower left over from another project and it seemed perfect to use for the following card sketch. No stamping for this flower, any multicoloured paper behind the detialed diecut will work, even paper you've painted yourself. The strip of foil was also lying on my desk and it wasn't quite long enough, so a simple snip to divide it in 2 and extend it out to the edges and no-one will ever know. There are some of my favourite embossing folders retiring too but not this great texture design. A card sketch is a great way to get going if you don't have a starting point. This one is very easy to use. I was having so much fun creating backgrounds with my Poppy stamp ( see the card here ) that I created another panel using Bermuda Bay. It seemed a good idea to cut it into strips for the sketch challenge at Case This Sketch this week, and I even finally had time to play along with Just Add Ink. - Choosing and Using only 3 colours is quite hard for me. But I settled on Bermuda Bay, Blueberry Bushel (these 2 were easy choices) and then challenged myself with Daffodil Delight. My dark to light wasn't as obvious once I cut the strips but I think it still works. The flower is from the Forever Blossoms Set, the blue sprig is from Botanical Tags, and the painted leaf sprays are from the new Birthday Cake thinlits, and of course the gorgeous Butterfly is from Positive Thoughts(new in the mini catalogue now). Today is Australia Day. I consider myself so blessed to have the luxury of calling myself an Australian citizen and despite the controversy around the date, and acknowledging that we have terrible events in our history,  I cannot think of a more unique and wonderful place to live. It's a harsh and beautiful land, filled with amazing and diverse people.  I hope your day has seen you feeling grateful for where you live. It's been nice to have some time to relax and I was able to complete this card for a few challenges.
