Handmade envelopes with re-purposed maps

I rescued these old maps from the rubbish bin when HTW shifted offices. They are quite old and are detailed maps of  lots of local regions in Central Queensland.  I finally began my project of making them into envelopes using the fabulous Envelope Punch Board. They are boxed up in sets of 5 and I am quite happy with the coordinating greeting cards which also have a small strip of map on the front. Thanks for looking, Liz

Using some favourite Art Deco DSP, for FMS#156

Sometimes a favourite piece of paper can inspire a whole range of cards.  I have held onto this lovely piece for a while. I love the Art deco elements in it and the soft colours. Making these cards was also good because I have used up a quite a few bits and bobs that have been on my craft desk for a while- buttons, threads, you know... The very talented Narelle Farrugia has designed the layout at Freshly Made Sketches this week.    I have turned mine into a square card , it uses Lost Lagoon ribbon and ink, and a Night of Navy background. The others pieces are all elements I have been collecting over the years, and then there a few others using the same squares of base DSP but not following the sketch. thanks for looking, Liz

JAI #233 -Sketch Challenge

The sketch Challenge  this week at  Just Add Ink   use s trio of objects- one of my favourite type of layouts.  I have been wanting to do a window card for a while so this was a good opportunity. I have used the beautiful Mossy Meadow as the ink and the highlights. I have used 2 different sized circle punches to achieve the frame effect and the gorgeous "World of Dreams" stamp set.  I love the new Lovely Lace embossing folder design used in the base layer. This panel was lightly sponged with Pistachio Pudding and I love the effect. My sentiment wouldn't quite fit at the bottom so it's just a little tag at the side, with an old fave- the safety pin. Don't forget to check out the JAI website and the design team samples.  Thanks for looking, Liz

SUO #106 fall colours

Well it's spring here in Queensland but I do remember how beautiful Fall is in Northern countries so it was lovely to create using these tones. I am entering this card in the SUO challenges #106. Head over to the Stampin' Up! Only website to see some of the other great cards. I have used So Safron as my base and background DSP colours but have stamped the leaf image using Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry with the pen direct to rubber technique.  It is always fun to get 2 tones on one image. I used some so saffron ink and some of the ink left in the stamps to colour my piece of seam binding ribbon. The great sentiment is from the hostess gift for this month " Good Greetings" And I used up a few embellishments from my stash - wooden button, Cajun craze button, safety pin and timber arrow (from a project life kit). I do love the "World of Dreams" stamp set. It's so,versatile. The inside:  thanks for looking, Liz

Gift box of 3x3 notecards

Daffodil Delight, Petite Petals Punch, Itty bitty Accents Punch Meadow Moss, Blackberry Bliss, Best of Flowers Stampset and Scallop circle Punch, Bitty Accents Punch, Venetain romance DSP Found a groovy little box by SU demonstrator Sam Donald from Pootles.co.uk. She makes a myriad of boxes and I have tried quite a few. This one caught my eye and I made several for the markets, and we did this design in class this weekend. I have used several different sets of DSP and matching cardstock rather than stamp the cards, and I have altered some of the measurements to make it easier (for me) for cutting out. The boxes and lid measures are unchanged . Box 7 3/16" square, score at 2" on each side, Lid 6 1/4" square, score at 1 1/2" on each side, However for the card fronts I used: Mat 2 3/4"' square, DSP 2 1/2" square, and for the lid Mat 3" square, DSP 2 3/4" square. The post on Pootles.co.uk is for 3x3 box for swaps for US

SUO# 105 - Embellishments, Card in a Box with the Open Sea

I love the card in a box style and have been wanting to try this technique with the Open Sea sailing ship for my Dad's birthday. He was in the RAN and has enjoyed a trip on a sailing ship (the eldest crew member on the Young Endeavour) so I think he will like this. Masculine cards can be a bit of a challenge! I am also entering this in the SUO challenge- to use an embellishment (page 208-209 of the Annual Catalogue). there are such a lot to choose from I have made this style before (see posts here(Jan 9) and here for directions and measurements). I am also in awe of a french paper crafter Lezards de Cilou and she inspired me to try and get more detail in the elements. So after heat embossing with Early Espresso powder and cutting out the ship I have used the blender pen and some More Mustard ink to colour the sails, then manually embossing with the stylus. I am quite happy with the effect. Ink colours include Island Indigo, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana for the sea, and Mar

JAI #230 Just Add DAD and PPA#218

This weekend was Father's Day here in Australia, and Just Add Dad is the challenge for Just Add Ink this week.  You can check out the great cards by the design team here . This simple banner card was one of the designs I made for Father's Day this year for my stall at  The Handmade Expo Markets. I had forgotten how much I like stitching on cards - the effort of getting the machine out is really worth it!  Sahara Sand and the Champagne Glimmer Paper work well with the Hello Honey. I am also entering this in the Pals Paper Arts Challenge  which is a colour challenge this week. There's a tiny bit of blackberry bliss in the fabulous DSP. Here is another sample of the same style of card My other Father's Day Card is the Tag Card,  which is slightly more elaborate but definitely worth the effort.  You can find the instructions for this on my blog here .  It is the August 6th entry. Thanks for looking, and I hope all the fathers in your lif

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #234

This great sketch was quite easy to use, and I was keen to use up the leftovers from my card class today - christmas with the Festival of Trees Set. (more photos of those later)  I have used one of my favourite colour combinations - Soft Sky, Lost Lagoon and Kraft/ Crumb Cake. The Festival of Trees image is heat embossed with Pool Party powder which tones so beautifully with the Lost Lagoon. Unfortunately I used up all my ribbon in the class but I have a great stash of crochet cotton in matching colours to most of my cardstock thanks to my good friend and colour expert Sloane at Needlework cottage. One of the great products in the new Christmas Catalogue is the  Under the Tree Designer Series Paper. It has such  great weight and texture. . After watching the video from SU on Stampin Connection I was keen to try the spritzing colour on the kraft side because the white printing allows you to use the emboss resist technique. It's beautiful.  Perhaps I didn&#

CASE-ing the Catty #7 with a Clean and Simple card for SUO#104

I love the concept of CASE-ing the Catalogue and have been keenly following the blog regularly but haven't been able to participate for a while. Have missed the deadlines too often!!!! but it has been a great exercise to examine the weekly challenge and see what I would make if I had time?.... It has also made me more aware of how few card samples are actually in this catalogue. There are loads of packaging ideas/ entertaining ideas but not that many card layouts to copy. Since the challenge from the blog is to be inspired by an image, an embellishment, a colour scheme or any other layout ideas it makes you look at the pictures differently. I also like to participate in the Stampin Up Only Challenge and this time it's a Clean and Simple card - definitely a challenge for me to not add too much! I have taken inspiration from the cushions on page 101. I love the camera image and the colour scheme so I have used Hello Honey and Island Indigo to create this Clean and Simple Card u

Partial die cut technique for Words - a photo tutorial (finally)

Some time ago I posted some photos of a few cards die cut with the great Little Letters Framelits so that the word stands up when the card is folded. See Little Letters Thinlits, Love, Love, Love these  (from July23). It's a great effect and I was asked to create tutorial to explain it. So Jacqueline I apologise for the delay but I have finally found some time to put this photo tutorial together. (I couldn't even contemplate creating a video). It is a picture -heavy post and I hope it is easy to understand, any questions please email me. These are a few Christmas notecards that I had fun playing with  (they will be cute table place cards) Begin by ruling a pencil line along the centre fold of your card base. Place the lower big shot plate on the cutting platform. Put the cardstock on the plate and then arrange the letters cutting side down with the base of the letter approx 3mm below the pencil line. Use a ruler or straight edge of cardboard to make sure they a

Festival of Trees sneak peak

This is one of the new stampsets available in the coming Christmas Catalogue - should be available after August 28, and I will be using it in my Card Class this weekend. The coordinating punch is fabulous. I am also really impressed with the new Desoigner Series Paper from the catalogue - this is a much heavier weight than the regular paper and is beautiful for making boxes. It has a lovely texture like the Kraft cardstock too which is nice to stamp on. I think Christmas cards need to be simple so these fit that requirement. Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler, glitter paper and linen thread- Easy.
