Lillybet's Papers

The beautiful photo for CI#73 was taken at a property outside Longreach called Ernestina in June 2019 after some winter rain. It is a very rare display of so many flowers commonly called Lamb's tail (appropriate since it used to be sheep country) or Mulla Mulla or Cotton Bush, but properly known as Ptilotus exaltatus, P.nobilis, P. obovatus. We lived in Longreach for 4 years in the early 90's and Sally is a friend we made during that time. She has quite an eye for photography. The seasons since have been quite hard  and they have not had much of the recent rains. The longterm effects of living with drought are real and profound. I never cease to be amazed at the myriad of difficulties that primary producers live with that we take for granted in our urban lives, and the strength they need to keep going. I have always loved a 3D frame and try to create a sampler each time there is a new catalogue. The Needlepoint Nook suite lent itself to this quite easily. A friend gave me a stash of goodies from a well loved sewing room which included these gorgeous thread wheels and lots of tiny timber spools of cotton, I have had some in a jar as part of my kitchen decor but moved them to this new home. Included in the stash was a beautiful button which inspired the handmade birdsnest in both frames I have made using the Cathedral Window style. There are a few squares using the embroidery panel from the thinlits, some fussy cut floral embroidered flowers, and a few things I love. It is based on the Cathedral Window quilt pattern and the circles of DSP are all Mossy Meadow, punched using a 2" punch, the squares are 1 3/8" and they are all raised on either a single or double layer of dimensionals or thick card. Last week for CASEing the Catty we used the section for Natures' Poem and I was inspried by a few things in the Catalogue. One of them was the mosaic style of card using stamped images on page 152. I used to make a lot of Patchwork style cards and since my crafting mojo has been a little low lately I find it helpful to go back to styles I used to like. So patchwork styles reappeared in my vision and I had always wanted to try a cathedral windows style. This is what I ended up with - eventually! I punched out 2" circles of patterned paper and cut squares of woodgrain or plain card to 1 1/4", and folded the edges of the circle over the squares. Getting them all lined up in the grid took a little time but I like the spacing which also allowed me to decorate the edges using some of the fabulous copper vinyl stickers from the Tea Room Copper stickers. Welcome back for another week at CASEing the Catty as we work our way through the different sections of the catalogue. This week we look at pages 52-65, and my inspriation picture came from page 59 and the silhouette on the multicoloured background of watercolour wiht the Enjoy Life set. At least - that was where I started! I have always loved silhouette images and this set appeals to me for both its images and sentiments. I have been having a lot of success using the stamparatus and doing Multicoloured stamping.  So instead of watercolour I thought I'd try a multicoloured panel. Yesterday's post has all the instructions for how to do this (you can find it here .) I LOVE the Bokeh dots stamp images- this one is the starry background, isn't it gorgeous. So from there I switched up the colours and the stampset but still used the multicoloured panel and the silhouette image, but this time the tall tree from Rooted in Nature. Here'...
