Gatefold with Painted Lavender.

I recently shared the instructions for a simple gatefold card (June 22) which we created in a class earlier this year. This is the same layout but switched up to purple tones using the Painted Lavender stampset. Version One. Version Two. Here's the dimensions for this card. There are lots of pictures and tips for assembly on the blogpost from June 22 It's a great stampset with lots of versatile images that layer together easily for beautiful bunches of lavender. Don't forget to see all the other samples of gatefold cards from my Fancy Folds Page ( top right in the header of this page ) I hope you have a creative week and remember,  "don't just post online,  post something pretty!" cheers, Liz

Gate Fold Card Enduring Beauty

This card is very easy to make but the interesting fold always packs a punch for being slightly different. The important part is to adhere the right gate piece ( right flap ), with the 2 cm tab aligned on the right edge of the cardbase before adding the internal white mat to cover the tab. Be sure to have the score line evenly lined up with the right card edge. I like to make myself a template of card designs that I think I'll reuse, as I find a visual with measurements is easiest to cut and prepare - especially if I am going to do multiples. Front- closed Inside open view from back - open I like to put a little stopper to hold the "gate" closed. In this case it is a little punched tag shape but it could be a tag, a heart, a flower, anything that matches. Place a dimensional on the left side only of the stopper so that the right side of the tag is free to hold the gate closed by tucking the edge under. You can decorate both flaps with either DSP or embossed panels or stam...

More GATE FOLD samples - Irresistible Blooms and Patterned DSP

In my last class we made a Gate Fold using the Layering Leaves set. It's such a nice fold I had fun creating a few more samples using up some of the elements from my "useful box"  (thanks to Playschool I have always had a useful box, although  there are no cereal cartons or egg cartons are in mine these days!) Some time ago I heat embossed the flower in gold onto watercolour paper and painted it with Poppy Parade and Petal Pink, it was in the box and was the starting point for this creation. this sample uses the beautiful Irresistible Blooms  bundle I love the Dry Brushed Metallic DSP for decorating and die cutting You can see the original post and the measurements I used here. Don't forget I have a whole page with links to instructions on different Fancy Folds - if you scroll right to the top of this page you'll see all the different pages available and the FANCY FOLDS is the far right tab. The second sample was very quick, just using DSP for the pattern and int...

Crafting with You Gatefold and other samples.

How cute and fun is the CRAFTING WITH YOU stampset and dies . I have been having fun playing with these cute images and dies Using up some scraps on my desk I created another gatefold card  (you can find measurements and details on this recent post ). The easel is mounted on a sheet of vellum which is glued onto a piece of acetate to give it some stability. I thought the strip of DSP captured the background painting effect quite well and supported my other colours in the stamping. How cute are the retired library clips for holding the paper on the easel.  There's so many things you can create with these beautiful dies. Shop with me here  and here's another sample using some more of the elements. How cute is that paper trimmer? I hope you have a creative week and remember,  "don't just post online,  post something pretty!" cheers, Liz

TUTORIAL - Gate Fold #3 Unequal size "gates"

A Gate Fold Card  is any card where 2 flaps fold in from either side to cover the writing on the inside panel of the card. The size of the card base determines the finished size of the card but the flaps can many different sized - they can be equal width and meet in the middle - they can be one wide and one narrow and fold over each other - they can also be different heights - ie one tall and one short - like this version. I posted a few Pink versions yesterday,  (you can see that post here )  but here are some more masculine samples. We made this card at a workshop earlier this year but I never had time to write up the dimensions which I promised to do so now that I am finishing up making the kits I am recording the dimensions and instructions for you. This is CASEd from a beautiful card which I received last year. DIMENSIONS: Cardstock Card base and Left flap                  17.5cm x 14.7...

CTC#230 Favourite BigShot Project

Choosing your favourite Big Shot project is definitely tricky, it's one of my most used tools and I can't imagine crafting without it, so to choose a favourite project is a big call. I love framelits but I think embossing folders are just so effective at adding a wow factor. So my project today is not a specific case but uses both folders and framelits and a fancy fold. We made this style in a fancy fold class a while ago but it has taken me some time to write up the tutorial. A Gate Fold Card is any card where 2 flaps fold in from either side to cover the writing on the inside panel of the card. The size of the card base determines the finished size of the card but the flaps can many different sizes - they can be equal width and meet in the middle - they can be one wide and one narrow and fold over each other - they can also be different heights - ie one tall and one short- like this version This is CASEd from a beautiful card which I received last year...

TUTORIAL - Fancy Fold - Gate Fold #2 using DSP, 3 cards from one sheet

Gate Fold Cards are a an easy and effective way to showcase DSP and make a card with a little different opening. We made 4 different folds at my class last weekend and I am posting the tutorials here over the next few days. Yesterday I posted the measurements and tutorial for a basic Gate Fold. You can read that here. This is a slightly different but equally easy version. The feature panel on the front is held closed under the little keeper on the right, it just tucks under. DSP GATE FOLD INSTRUCTIONS The card base is 10.5cm x 14.7 cm - ie 1/4 of a standard A4 sheet of Cardstock. This provides stability and a coloured frame for your DSP DSP 10cm wide x 28 cm long ( you will get 3 cards from one 12 x 12 sheet) Score at 7 cm and 21 cm Inside panel is 9.5cm x 13.5cm Front panels any size but not wider than 8cm  - Stitched Rectangles work really well Be careful when adhering front panel to only apply glue to half of the panel which is adhere...
