CTC#230 Favourite BigShot Project

Choosing your favourite Big Shot project is definitely tricky, it's one of my most used tools and I can't imagine crafting without it, so to choose a favourite project is a big call. I love framelits but I think embossing folders are just so effective at adding a wow factor.
So my project today is not a specific case but uses both folders and framelits and a fancy fold. We made this style in a fancy fold class a while ago but it has taken me some time to write up the tutorial.

A Gate Fold Card is any card where 2 flaps fold in from either side to cover the writing on the inside panel of the card.

The size of the card base determines the finished size of the card but the flaps can many different sizes
- they can be equal width and meet in the middle
- they can be one wide and one narrow and fold over each other
- they can also be different heights - ie one tall and one short- like this version

This is CASEd from a beautiful card which I received last year.

DIMENSIONS:
Cardstock
Card base and Left flap            17.5cm x 14.7cm      SCORE at 6.5cm
Right Flap                                 9cm  x 9cm               SCORE at 1.5cm
Inside Panel for writing            10cm x 14.2
DSP for Left Flap                      6cm x 14.2cm

ASSEMBLY

  • If you are going to emboss the right flap you need to do that first keeping the 1.5cm tab unembossed
  • place adhesive on the 1.5cm tab of the small square
  • position the small square about 3cm from the top of the right card edge and adhere the tab to the card base so that the score line matches up with the right edge of the card base ( ie the right flap will sit in the middle of the height of the card.
  • adhere the inside writing panel over the tab
  • adhere the DSP to the front of the left flap
  • decorate as desired.
  • if you need a "keeper" to hold the card closed use a small circle of Cardstock (3/4" is ideal)
  • fold the card closed and place one dimensional to the left of the small flap
  • place the keeper onto the adhesive surface of the dimensional
  •
    Very easy and very effective

The only catch with these cards is that you have to be mindful of where you are writing and avoid the top right corner and the bottom right corner so that your handwriting is not visible when the card is closed. So stamping in the corner can help to prevent that.
You can decorate with as much or as little as you like. I have a few more samples I will post later this week. This one is similar but has fewer embellishments. I really love those doily thinlits, but I only use them with the adhesive sheets as backing - it also helps remove all those tiny inner scraps when you peel it from the sheet.

Quite a number of embossing folders are retiring and there will be a smaller selection of folders to choose from. I love the tin tile Embossing Folder and I think it works really well with the Dear Doily flower, thankfully it will carry over.  Sadly though the Dear Doily bundle is retiring. It's such a pretty flower. !

Don't forget we love to see what you create. Pop a photo of your favourite Big Shot project on our Facebook page.

Next on the hop this week is Peta

I hope you have a creative week and remember,

     post something pretty!"

Envelope Dies perfect for an Acetate Tent card and some new DSP

After creating yesterday's cards I was on a roll and created this one using the beautiful Gilded Autumn DSP and the Fancy Phrases stamp set.  I really love the sentiments in this set.  It is such a simple design and easy to create. You can find all the directions on yesterday's post for Just Add Ink (JAI#518)  I watercoloured the white leaf after I had adhered the gold veins just to soften it, and I added a strip of mint DSP to the front of one of the tent stands as the white was a bit stark. That's the cool thing about this design, you can change it up plenty of ways. I'm sure we can all send these type of cards at the moment. I hope you are safe and well, and staying connected, wherever you are. Funky Folds Blog Hop= a Bay window card using Country Flowers

Well it's been a very long time since I participated in a blog hop - and it feels good to be participating in a FUNKY FOLDS hop. You may have come from Jan McQueen's creation, or you may be starting here. Be sure and hop all the way around. I do love Fancy Fold cards and of course with a new catalogue and new products it is fun to be creating again. I have a big weekend retreat coming up in a few weeks and we are using the Country Flowers Stamp set so I am creating a swag of samples. Since time is such a precious commodity for all of us I am using some old favourite folds with new products - a whole new lease on life. For this week's hop I am revisiting the Bay Window Card. The front tri-panel piece bends forward and tucks in behind the little anchor which is fixed to the inside. Your card will stand up unaided. This is it with the edge tucked under the anchor. You can find the measurements and instructions and several previous samples on these pages. Today's card featu...

    CTC#116 Inspired by Pages 20-31

Welcome back of another week of CTC. This week we are CASEing quite a big section of the catalogue-pages 20-31, which includes the Oh So Succulent suite. I love the succulent set but need a lot more time to play with it. (I'm sure you can all relate to that!) I also love little square notecards like the one on page 31, so I had a little play and this is what I came up with. This week I've done the step it up system again. This is a lot of fun and a process which can help you analyse your own style and how to adapt that for classes or workshops to appeal to a wider range of styles. This week I am stepping it up from simple stamping directly onto the notecard, then building on that with another colour, added layers and embellishments. Although the twine doesn't carry through from the base card it needed a little bit of black to tie them all together.
