SUO# 105 - Embellishments, Card in a Box with the Open Sea

I love the card in a box style and have been wanting to try this technique with the Open Sea sailing ship for my Dad's birthday. He was in the RAN and has enjoyed a trip on a sailing ship (the eldest crew member on the Young Endeavour) so I think he will like this. Masculine cards can be a bit of a challenge! I am also entering this in the SUO challenge- to use an embellishment (page 208-209 of the Annual Catalogue). there are such a lot to choose from

I have made this style before (see posts here(Jan 9) and here for directions and measurements). I am also in awe of a french paper crafter Lezards de Cilou and she inspired me to try and get more detail in the elements. So after heat embossing with Early Espresso powder and cutting out the ship I have used the blender pen and some More Mustard ink to colour the sails, then manually embossing with the stylus. I am quite happy with the effect.
Ink colours include Island Indigo, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana for the sea, and Marina Mist for the sky.  the sea is 4 layers of torn cardstock sponged with all the sea colours., I have also used the aqua painter in the sea to blend the colours together a little.
 The anchor is embossed with a mixture of Early Espresso and Pewter for an aged patina.

The Antique Brad seemed to fit perfectly with the mariner theme, and I added a few candy dots from the brights collection near the globe. I have also used an old SU embellishment - the Soda Pop top which has been flattened in the Big Shot and filled with Crystal Effects.

CTC#48 Who doesn't love new DSP

Welcome back to CASEing the Catty for this round. You may have come from Rachel's beautiful project  or you maybe starting here. There are lots of great posts to visit. This week we are using new Designer Series paper from the Holiday Catalogue - and who doesn't love a pack of new paper? The problem of course is which one to choose.... followed by the problem of actually having to CUT into a pristine pack. ....I know you all know what I mean.
