JAI #212, Ex Libris Tucked flap Card in Coastal Cabana

Some days it takes for ever to get things together.... I have been planning to make one of these cards for ages but despite it looking relatively simple thanks to Natasha Schwecke's fabulous instructions it just didn't come together easily for me today. So after 4 attempts this is where I stopped! (still not 100% happy with it…)

I used the Circle Framelits and the Petite Petals stamp set and Punch, and the beautiful Ex Libris stamp for the background. The Brown Sugar base is textured using a sharp blade run along the edges, and I have used the Everything Eleanor swirl on top which is heat embossed with White Powder. Everything had glitter applied to it today - some days you need to add sparkle, so the butterfly was the obvious choice! The Papillon Potpourri butterfly was coloured using the Blender Pen and Brown Sugar and Coastal Cabana inks. The sentiment is from Petite Pairs.

 Natasha's instructions are on Stampin connection and she doesn't appear to have a blog so I have just copied and pasted from her Stampin Connection post.


This is how the Framelit is positioned to create the flap that will cover the front of the card.

The finished card size is a regular 5 1/2 X 4 1/4. However, after the card stock is folded, trim "about" 1/4" off of the FRONT panel so that it'll fit properly when tucked.

My DSP panel measures 5 1/4" X 4".

Basically to create the "flap" part, you open the card (so you're actually cutting the inside portion) lay the Framelit of your choice just off the card and line up the TOP Acrylic Plate so that it's about 1/4" in from the edge; (so that the 1/4" part won't actually be getting cut.) Run through the Big Shot to create the "flap". Decorate as desired and tuck the flap over the card front. The possibilities are endless! :)

Natasha's instructions are in imperial measurements so I just trimmed them down to fit an Australian envelope.
The colour challenge from JAI is fabulous and I really enjoyed working with these great colours.

    Liz, this is SO pretty! I know what you mean, about instructions seeming so simple, but having a terribly hard time making them work for you.     Thanks so much Nikki, I was really inspired by your gorgeous sample and want to try the water drop technique. i have not had much success with that in the past and thought i must have been using the wrong paper, but if yours worked on regular old Very vanilla I must give it another try. GDP #277 a gorgeous colour combination with Pretty Perennials

The Pretty Perennials Stampset is gorgeous to use on its own but the floral dies really do add a little something special. My card this week matches the colour challenge at the Global Design Project. I have stamped directly onto the Oh so Ombre DSP which is a free Sale A Bration item with a qualifying purchase for the rest of this month. I love the tone on tone stamping for added depth. I have gone over the Happy with Wink of Stella but it's not easy to photograph. The teeny heart is a teeny leftover of some retired Blushing Bride Glimmer paper and I have also incorporated other retired embellishments like the library clip and crystal button - I do love to use them up. CTC#48 Who doesn't love new DSP

Welcome back to CASEing the Catty for this round. You may have come from Rachel's beautiful project  or you maybe starting here. There are lots of great posts to visit. This week we are using new Designer Series paper from the Holiday Catalogue - and who doesn't love a pack of new paper? The problem of course is which one to choose.... followed by the problem of actually having to CUT into a pristine pack. ....I know you all know what I mean. I have lots of photos for you today to try and show off some of the designs, but it's not easy to capture and they always look so much better in real life.
