CTC#86 Everyday is a good day to send a card

Welcome to the CASEing the Catty Sunday night blogshop where we use a section of the Catalogue to inspire this weeks projects. Designers can take a layout, a colour combination, or any element as the starting point to create something new. This week we are using the samples from the Everyday Occasions section (which is a huge section) from pages 66-91. Because this is such a big section we will revisit it in a few weeks. 


I have chosen the card on page 71 because I have always been attracted to grids. 

I have used the gorgeous new By the Shore Designer Series paper, it has such a lovely fresh colour scheme.



Thankfully the current fashion in cards is to be more relaxed in the layout rather than precisely squatre so that works perfectly for me. I have used lots of the layering squares framelits to create different images.There are a few techniques here. One is to punch a window and have the ribbon behind to fill the space (the little green heart, which is how the Catalogue sample is put together) and the other is the little bird square which has been edged with copper. To create the edge simply drag the edge of your piece across the versa mark pad, cover with the copper embossing powder and heat. You will end up with a different look every time.


And because I like to show you a similar sample using a set or tools that you may already have instead of a new set, here is the second sample. Still using new paper but the butterfly punch has been around for a while now. I tried leaving the window blank for the backing paper to show through but in the end I inserted a different coloured butterfly into each window.


Next on the hop is the fabulous Bronwyn ( one of my earliest Stamping Up inspirations was one of Bronwyn's grid cards using Pocket Silhouettes - now that is a while ago but I loved it then and still do, so thanks Bronwyn)

    Elizabeth both cards are just gorgeous, especially all the different techniques you have used. I love how you have created the second card using the Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set the end result is great.

    Love how using the same colours with a different focus colour can make two different, yet gorgeous cards!!! I also love the scallops on the layering squares framelits.

Colour INKspiration#178 Happy Hibiscus

Happy Hibiscus is a new set in my collection and I needed to get it out and play with it, so this colour combination seemed like a good place to start.  Isn't the Inspiration picture amazing? I wish I was a better gardener and could grow these gorgeous treasures. But since that is not my skill I am happy to admire nature. I used the watercolour 100 paper and created two pieces of colour, one a range of dark and light Calypso Coral, and one a mix of Soft Sea Foam and Old Olive.  Once dry I was able to cut out the leaves and tiny flowers. I stamped the 3 large flowers over the watercolour and cut them out using the Hybrid Embossing Folder - It's so easy and super effective as it embosses and cuts in one pass creating some amazing depth for the blossoms. I love the leaf shapes and definition in these dies, just gorgeous. Lots of white seemed like a good way to let the colours shine, so a simple embosse...
